The Five Parishes Path Group
The Five Parishes Paths Project has the following goals :-
To encourage the use of the local footpath network in the areas of Newtown St. Boswells, Eildon, Bowden, St. Boswells, Mertoun and Maxton.
To promote, create and enhance local paths so that they are in reasonable condition for use by local people and visitors and also to help ensure that paths are available for our children and future generations.
Examples of work to be considered range from identifying the location of footpaths, arranging clearance of blocked paths, improved sign posting etc. to publishing local footpath guides or designing a footpath web site etc. As a start work has began on mapping all known footpaths in the area since apart from Ordinance Survey Maps, which only provide limited information, no other comprehensive record can be found.
Other areas in the Borders have been very successful in progressing this type of work which has resulted in improvement and more awareness of local paths. Some areas have obtained funding grants to help project work which could also be applicable in this area.
Irrespective of whether you have time to take an active part the Path Group or not anyone simply interested in paths/walking etc. is very welcomed to attend the meetings to hear what’s going on.
If you would like more inf . or if you are unable to attend the next meeting but would like to be involved in this project please contact:
