St Boswells Cricket Club News November 2008

End of Season Update
The Border League ended in controversy this year as Langholm having won 6 games out of 6 failed to play the required number of games (7) to constitute a league. Therefore, at an EGM, St Boswells were confirmed as Champions this year with 7 wins out of 9 games played. This means "Bossie" have effectively won 4 Border League titles in a row (2004, 2005, 2007, & 2008), as in 2006 we played in the National leagues. It is likely that the Border League rules/competition format for next season will change with several options being voted on at the next League AGM.

St Lucia Tour Update
As some know, we are planning a tour to St Lucia in Feb/March 2010. We have 11 confirmed players so far as well as several supporters signed up with the required £100 deposit. We estimate that it will cost around £1000 for the 14day trip. Its all systems go in terms of the organisation for it - we would like some more players (and supporters) if possible to get us up to a playing squad of 15 (before we offer it up to the other clubs). For anybody interested or needing more information please contact Richard Young on 07809 428285.

Junior Update
We have a thriving junior section ably managed by our qualified coach Gerald Smith. We are, though, looking for more volunteers to help on Tuesdays at the practice nights and Wednesdays for the games. Whether you'd be willing to help as a coach (the club would be delighted to pay for your course), or a helper (which requires no coaching certificate, cricket experience or knowledge), or even to help with transport to the away games - all assistance would be appreciated by Gerald (01835 822507) and the club. The juniors are, after all, the life-blood of the club. All kids from 8 to 18 are welcome.

Club Update
For the first time in over 20 years we are planning to join the Border Reserve League which play games on Sundays. This is essential to develop the youngsters coming through, as well as provide a more regular game for our thriving band of "Sunday" players. As usual, though, we are always looking for players of any and all abilities to play in either of our midweek, Saturday or Sunday teams.
If you know of anyone keen to play, please come along during the season on Tuesday or Thursday training nights or contact Richard on 07809 428285 for further info.
We are also keen for more scorers, umpires, supporters (Bar open every Friday during winter from 5pm), 100 club members, committee members etc etc...
Lastly, you may have seen some activity over the last couple of weekends - we've been installing a new patio area and ground drains which should (hopefully) be of great benefit next year. Other improvements are planned - stay tuned!!!
