St Boswells Cricket Club - Season 2007 - News Bulletin
‘BORDER LEAGUE’ TITLE IS THE GOAL! 2007 sees us back in the Border League. We had a ball in the National Leagues last year but ultimately it ended in relegation. Our lack of a paid professional was often the difference in some tight matches. In hindsight, if instead of spending money on covers, sightscreens etc (which we were told was a prerequisite) and did what other clubs did which was to have very poor facilities but pay for a good overseas pro then things may have been different. However, we did manage some fantastic wins, one in particular against the eventual winners Freuchie will live long in the memory. Defending a meager total of 73, Elliot “The V” Hunter in conjunction with some impressive fielding took an amazing 7 for 12 to bowl them out for just 61. We also managed wins against Edinburgh Accies and Perthshire. More importantly the team had a great time traveling to new grounds and meeting new opponents. We feel it’s been a great learning experience and has definitely made us a better team. Captain this year is Rich Young, ably assisted by his Vice Captain Scott Turnbull. Nobody is under any illusion that we’ll come back in and steamroller everybody in the Border League. It will be extremely tight, however all the players are keen to use what we have learnt from the National Leagues and are confident that if the attitude is right and a bit of luck goes our way then we can again be challenging for a 3rd title out of 3 attempts. Once again we will be relying on seasoned Pro’s like Jamie Glover, Kenny Ruthven and Steven Broom. However, we also have a thriving junior program which has seen some talent emerging in the last few years. Long may it continue! New players are always required. If you know anybody who’d like a game please badger them to come along or contact Rich on 07809428285. We have League, Cup & Friendly fixtures therefore all standards ranging from total beginner to budding Freddie Flintoff’s are most welcome! Our thanks once again go to Gordon Barkham and his team who maintain the ground to such a high standard. Further thanks must also go to Ian Athey who is continuing as our scorer and Agnes Laing (Honorary Membership Secretary and 100+ Club Secretary). Agnes in particular will be very keen to hear from anybody who would like to join our 100+ club. Full details overleaf. Also – If there are any budding Umpires out there we’d love to hear from you! (Full training can be given) All here at St.Boswells Cricket club hope the village once again gets behind us. With everybody pulling together we can ensure the club continues to go from strength to strength. We are lucky to have the best facilities of any club in the Borders and hope we can extend a welcome to all who may choose to drop by during the season. As a last note….
